Message From the Principal - Moving Forward
Dear Falcon Families,
We are officially at a crossroad. In the past week, Pinewood School has reached out to families to offer the opportunity to come back to school in a hybrid model. I am elated that many of you are entrusting us to have your children back in the classrooms. Please know that we are taking every opportunity to make this a safe transition for us all.
At the same time, I want to appreciate the families who have chosen to remain on the distance learning path with your child. This is a difficult decision that involves a strong commitment from our home partnership. Please know that even though you will not be on campus, you remain a big part of our school community. I am grateful that you will stay connected via your amazing teachers.
This week we have had many inquires about what our hybrid schedule looks like. To summarize, the Pollock Pines Elementary School District has established a weekly schedule wherein students will work from home on Mondays to complete work assigned by their classroom teacher. This day of of the week will be very similar to what our Wednesdays look like right now. For the remainder of the school week, Tuesday through Friday, students will come for in person instruction during either a morning session (Cohort A) or an afternoon session (Cohort B).
I have also been asked how we created these groups. In building the cohorts, the district placed a high priority in keeping siblings at both schools in the same group. Furthermore, I connected with each of our classroom teachers to get their advice on how to split the classes. From these conversations, I realized in just a few short weeks your teachers have really gotten to know you. They shared with me dynamics such as parent work schedules, child care needs, student sleep schedules, extra curricular activities and learning styles. I also reached out to several families personally. In all, much thought was placed into this scheduling.
This evening you will receive an email with a great deal of information about our upcoming transition. Specifically, this message will include your student's cohort assignment and procedural changes that will be in place at Pinewood as we welcome students back on campus.
Please know your child's health and wellness are paramount as we continue to work with you to educate our Pinewood Falcons. I encourage you to give us your feedback of how things are going and appreciate your suggestions as well.
Looking Forward,
Kim Little
